Welcome to TechKnack. This blog is a place for me to talk about my experiences with technology. From industry news, to interesting new web apps, to community contributions, if I find it interesting, I’ll post it here. My topics include blogging, the web in general, security, and linux and windows tips and tricks.
My name’s Andrew Rowls. I’ve been interested in technology since way back when my family bought our first computer. From there, my interest escalated to the web, and I began teaching myself web development. I’ve also meddled in computer hardware and software. In terms of software, I’m a full-fledged linux convert using Kubuntu on my personal computer. In terms of hardware, I have several shelled-out computers lying around which I’ve tried at various times to get running, but to no avail.
For the past few years, I’ve mostly been interested in hacking technology; finding out what something can do for me, as opposed to what it was built to do. A broadband router? Put custom third-party software on it, and it’s suddenly capable of so much more. A regular PC? Put a linux distro on it, and the possibilities are nearly unlimited. Lately I’ve been getting into hardware hacks; if something breaks, I’ll often take it apart to see how it works (er … worked).
