Thanks eternicode. I ended up installing transmission-daemon. It actually suits my needs perfectly with a little scripting. And it has a fairly polished web gui. I liked rtorrent while I used it, but the configuration frustrated me one too many times. Thanks again for the help.

Ask me,

The only thing I can think of is that rtorrent's maintainers have changed something in how rtorrent handles its directives. If you have the time, try to get a hold of copies of 0.8.0's and 0.8.2's default .rtorrent.rc files, and see if you can figure out any differences and translate the rc file you're trying to use through those differences.

Also, you've probably already checked this several times, but make sure your seeding ratio is the correct value.

Thanks for the update eternicode. I'm using 0.8.2. I've been up and down the .rtorrent.rc file many, many times and no matter what I do, I can't seem to get the files to be moved from directory to directory as they're supposed to. Files are always moved from the active directory to the finished directory (instead of the seeding directory) as soon as the download is done. And, the .torrent files are deleted from the watch directory as soon as the download is complete (instead of it being deleted once the upload ratio is reached). As soon as all that happens, seeding stops. I'm going to continue to play with it for a bit before I finally give up on rtorrent and try transmission (although I'm not sure it has a command line interface that meets my needs). Any suggestions?

Ask Me,

According to aptitude, it seems I have rtorrent 0.8.0 installed. It's been a while since I've used rtorrent, though, and I'm not sure of the last time my version was updated.

What version of rtorrent are you using? I\'ve tried your .rtorrent.rc file and it doesn\'t seem to work for me on rtorrent 0.8.2. Moving files to the seeding and finished directories doesn\'t seem to work as expected for me.

Rik, the torrentrc shouldn't be cut off; here on firefox, anyway, it wraps around to the next line, but copying and pasting it works fine.

Great tutorial. It has hopefully helped me fix a problem i'm having moving completed torrents and removing the inactive torrent.

I havent tested it yet tho. Just wanted to say some of your torrentrc above is cut off on the right, meaning some of the commands are incomplete.

As relic said above you may want to reformat the guide a little.

Thanks for the .rtorrent.rc file, I was looking to implement a similar system, but couldn't find the the rtorrent commands. Great tool, but the docs aren't that clear.

Came across this looking around on the net for some stuff while troubleshooting rtorrent. Great write up...

If you haven't got the "automation" down, try out pytvshows. It's a great tool and seems flawless to me so far.
